The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a watchdog group, has found that as much as 65% of the 16,000 pesticides the EPA approved between the late 1970s and 2010 were green-lighted through a hasty and potentially incomplete process. The public is under the false impression that if a substance has been registered by the EPA, it has gone through a thorough government review. This is not the case.
