This very long articleis about the safety of the nuclear reactors made by General Electric, the type of reactors that exploded at Fukushima following the earthquake and tsunami in 2011.  "Large portions of the United States are potentially at risk... Most of GE’s nuclear reactors are located near population centers east of the Mississippi River. More than 58 million people live within 50 miles of a GE nuclear reactor." Following is a very brief extract of the investigative report.

Newly found court documents from long ago are raising fresh questions about the safety of nuclear reactors made by General Electric.

The documents reveal that General Electric has known about serious, unresolved safety defects in its nuclear reactors since its first reactor began operating in Eureka, Calif., in 1958. GE’s many efforts since then to fix the defects have cost hundreds of millions of dollars at each plant but have not been entirely successful at addressing them.
