Reacting to the publication of an article in the newspaper Mainichi Daily News in 2011, Michel Fernex, professor emeritus at the Medical Faculty of Basel, former member of the steering committees of TDR (Tropical Diseases Research) in the World Health Organization and President of the Association of Children of Chernobyl Belarusfrom 2006 to 2010, published this text.
It created a stir on the Internet in Japan, demonstrating how insufficient the basic information on the effects of radiation on health and the ways to fight internal contamination still is. While we have posted other articles by Dr. Fernex, this one is very comprehensive. More people must understand the devastating health impacts of nuclear accidents, resist the building of more nuclear power plants, and advocate for the phasing out of the civil and military nuclear industries.

When reading the article of the Mainichi Daily News, dealing with health problems after the nuclear accident of Fukushima, one may ask the question: which institution could advise the authorities for taking the best decisions to protect the population and reduce the suffering of the victims?
