NEW DELHI: Are you facing frequent call drops while making mobile telephone calls? One of the culprits for this could be your municipal corporation, say industry experts.
Apart from spectrum — the airwaves which carry your mobile phone calls — operators need towers to put up equipment to receive and transmit the calls.
You need more of these towers and equipment when the spectrum available with telecom operators is less to support all the phone calls and data downloads that consumers are making.
"Given the burst in wireless data consumption, operators need more cell sites to carry the traffic since spectrum availability is so low," said Sayed Safawi, head of Viom, the nation's largest independent tower company with 42,000 towers.
