We signed this appeal. Within the context of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, nurses at Geneva's university hospital, HUG, organized a day for the well-being of breast cancer patients, "Stay feminine" which, among other activities, offered makeup sessions for women. Like the person who gives the testimony below, we were outraged. We contributed an opinion piece criticizing "pink" events, to the Tribune de Genève which featured it as "Letter of the Day" (see text below). Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) was established in 1985 as a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries, maker of several anti-breast cancer drugs. The aim of NBCAM at the start was to promote mammography as the most effective weapon against breast cancer. (Ref: "The history of Breast Cancer Awareness Month".)
