- Scientists have developed vaccine which targets tau proteins in the brain
- Tau proteins form tangles, blocking nutrients from getting to cells, which causes them to die, triggering memory loss associated with the disease
- Researchers hope vaccine will be able to slow disease's progression
- Other treatments focus on improving symptoms and have to be given early
A treatment for Alzheimer's disease is a step closer after 'very important' clinical trials got underway to test a potential vaccine.
Researchers have developed the first-ever jab which attacks and kills the 'tangles' in sufferers' brains.
